Redback Volunteer Day – Bear Cottage
As a business, our primary function is to ensure that our employees are giving 110% to their customers. However, we also believe that social responsibility and giving back to the community is equally as important.
That is why each Redback employee is given the opportunity to volunteer two days per year to a charity of their choice. Last week Guy, Miranda and Michelle took a day to volunteer for Bear Cottage, the only children’s hospice in NSW dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions.
Here’s how it went:
Why did you decide to volunteer at Bear Cottage?
Guy: The charity has been a part of my life for a really long time. I also have a dog grooming business and we groom their dog Frankie once a month. Two of my close friends also work with the charity – one as the Head Paediatrician and the other as a regular volunteer.
I know first-hand how invaluable their work is so when I was given the opportunity to volunteer my time I couldn’t have thought of a better place to do it.
Frankie greeted the team at the door
How did the day go?
Miranda: It went so well. It was really nice to be part of a good cause and even though we were only there for a few hours I was inspired to see how much can be achieved. While the day mainly consisted of making gift tags, hanging out with the staff allowed me to better understand how Bear Cottage works and just how important their work is for the families affected.
Will you be back?
Michelle: Most definitely! The charity is running a volunteer Christmas Gift Wrapping Station at Warringah Mall in December so myself and five other Redbackers have put our hands up to get involved.
It was a really amazing thing to be part of and I am so grateful and proud I work for a company that puts such a huge emphasis on giving back to the community. I really encourage anyone who can to get involved as it was definitely a day I will remember for a very long time.
Until next time,
